Fright at the Museum is a Haunted House fundraiser at the Naranjo Museum of Natural History. Starting October 23rd , you are invited to take a haunted tour through a museum taken over by terrifying creatures and ghostly beasts like you have never seen. Oct 31 – Scare on the Square – Hemphill

Scare on the Square & Trunk or Treat will be held on October 31 at the Sabine County Courthouse lawn in Hemphill.

  • October 31, from 6-8 PM
  • Costume Contest
    -for 6 years and under at 6:15 PM;
    -for 7 years to 12 years at 6:45 PM.
  • Also a trophy for the BEST Trunk or Treat vehicle and another for the BEST Volunteer Costume. These are revolving Trophies that are passed on each year.
  • First United Methodist Church will supply Popcorn & Cotton Candy for free. The Scare on the Square Committee will provide free water and juice. The Church of Jesus Christ LDS will be providing free Hot Dogs.
  • Barking Mad Animal Rescue will be selling Coffee, Hot Chocolate and Canned Pop as a fundraiser.

The founders of this family fun event, Kim & Janna, say they  “started this event to create the fun of Halloween that they remembered as children”, . Kim said,  “the carnivals with games  were so much fun”. Janna remembers “living in a large neighbor in Michigan where it was safe to walk to 50 different places to get candy. Sometimes the people in the homes would make you sing a song or tell a joke for the candy. It was always FUN”.

Sept. 16th thru 20th – Texas State Forest Festival in Lufkin

smokeyThere’s no place in East Texas better than Lufkin in September. That’s when you will want to be at the 31st Annual Texas State Forest Festival presented by Brookshire Brothers, September 16-20, 2015 at the George H. Henderson, Jr. Exposition Center. More than 25,000 people attend this festival each year because this event offers fun for the entire family.

Keeping the festival fresh, new entertainment to excite all ages, Flippenout, Extreme Trampoline Show is unique and explosive. The Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show is an action-packed Lumberjack Show featuring log rolling, log rolling dogs, chopping, sawing, axe throwing, dragster chainsaw and tree climbing. Also new to 2015, The Monkey Man! Jerry Brown and his monkey will mesmerize and delight you. Back by popular demand the Wild West Show and the Kids Celebration Show. Old favorites to the festival that will return once again this year include the Petting Zoo, Pony & Train Rides, and the Children’s Festival. Also, don’t miss the 44th Annual Hushpuppy Championships, East Texas Got Talent, a new car display, and the East Texas Cheerleading Championships.

Other events returning to the Texas State Forest Festival include the Pom Pon/Dance Team Competition and Century 21 Shows Carnival. There will be commercial booth exhibits, great food, live music, and local entertainment. Bring your family and friends and prepare to have fun at the 31st Annual Texas State Forest Festival September 16-20, 2015.
